Women voters host immigration lawyer WHITTIER – Carl Shusterman, an immigration attorney, will speak at the 10 a.m. to noon Saturday annual brunch of the Whittier chapter of the League of Women Voters. The musical, “Plaid Tidings,” received two nominations: Best Musical in a Large Theater and Best Ensemble Performance. “These nominations are an excellent example of the outstanding cultural opportunities that La Mirada has to offer,” City Manager Andrea M. Travis said. The Ovation Awards honor local theaters for excellence in performing arts and draw national attention to the prominence and magnitude of theaters in the Los Angeles area. The winners will be announced at a ceremony at 7:30p.m. Nov. 12 at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. Actor Neil Patrick Harris will host the event. Fashion show in Montebello MONTEBELLO – The Beverly Hospital Guild is hosting its annual fashion show, “Stepping Into Fashion,” from 11 a.m. to 3p.m. Saturday at the Quiet Cannon, 901 Via San Clemente. The public is invited for the social hour at 11 a.m. and lunch at noon. Tickets are $40 per person. Family Fair’s last day is Oct. 24 WHITTIER – The popular Family Fair held from 5 to 9p.m. every Wednesday along Greenleaf Avenue between Adele and Philadelphia streets will continue through Oct. 24. The event features a certified farmers’ market, a food park area, craft and specialty item vendors, a children’s play area and live entertainment. Uptown district restaurants are open for dining and many of the retail shops are open for business. Free parking is available in many of the Uptown parking lots and parking for a fee is available at the parking structure on Bright Avenue. The fair is presented by the Whittier Uptown Association. La Mirada Theatre gets nominations LA MIRADA – The La Mirada Theatre for Performing Arts received seven nominations from the 2007 Los Angeles Stage Alliance Ovation Awards. The theater’s production of “Greater Tuna” received five nominations, including Best Play in a Large Theater, Lead Actor nominations for Joe Sears and Jaston Williams, Best Sound Design in a Large Theater for Ken Huncovsky and Best Costume Design in a Large Theater for Linda Fisher. last_img read more
