‘Donegal has the potential for more services and jobs in social enterprise’ – DLDC

first_imgThe Donegal Local Development CLG (DLDC) has welcomed the publication of the National Social Enterprise Policy by highlighting the potential benefits it could bring to the county.Ireland’s first ever Social Enterprise Policy was published this month to provide support for social enterprise in three key areas: building awareness, growing and strengthening Social Enterprise and improving policy alignment.DLDC Chairperson Patsy McGonagle said that the sector had been seeking a supportive framework for many years such as this and congratulated the Department of Rural & Community Development for bringing it to completion.  Mr McGonagle commented: “Donegal is highly reliant on social enterprise yet has the potential to create many more services and jobs in the sector. “According to a 2013 Forfás report, nationally the social enterprise sector supports over 25,000 jobs but has the potential to create at least a further 65,000. Before now, a framework has been lacking to drive this potential.”Donegal Local Development CLG delivers extensive social enterprise supports alongside other programmes such as LEADER, Local Employment Services, the national social inclusion programme (SICAP), Tús, and the Rural Social Scheme to individuals and community groups annually. Patsy added, “with staff dedicated to assist social enterprises, DLDC will play a central role in ensuring the success of the new Policy.” ‘Donegal has the potential for more services and jobs in social enterprise’ – DLDC was last modified: July 25th, 2019 by Rachel McLaughlinShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:DLDCpatsy mcgonaglelast_img read more

Cape Town opens world class athletics stadium

first_img19 February 2015The new Green Point Athletics Stadium, upgraded by the City of Cape Town at a cost of R85-million, was officially opened by executive mayor Patricia de Lille on Wednesday.Young boys and girls who hoped to become the next global athletics icons would now have the opportunity to make that dream a reality, De Lille told assembled guests. The world-class facility now meets the technical standards set by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), De Lille said. The improvements include a state-of-the-art cobalt-blue tartan track and seating capacity for 4 500 spectators, making the stadium able to accommodate 1 000 more spectators than it did before. It is designed to be accessible by disabled people and has a VIP suite, changing rooms and a large reception area.Three tenants are to be housed in the facility: the Lions Club, the Cape Peninsula University of Technology Athletics Club, and the Western Province Athletics Federation. The stadium would be available for a range of athletics events – from school athletics days to national athletics competitions.“The scale and quality of this stadium will mean that learners will be able to perform on the same track as Olympic athletes,” De Lille said.Olympic silver medal winner Elana Meyer said at the opening on Wednesday that the new facility was “world class and it will inspire youth to join athletics”, The Times newspaper reported. She said the stadium reminded her of the first time she ran as a youngster on a tartan track.Meyer won silver at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona.Cape Town has been chosen to host the World Triathlon Series in April.
