Every Premier League trophy presentation pictured – Leicester to join legends?

first_img 15. United marched on in 2008 – The Red Devils beat Chelsea to top spot and defeated them again in the Champions League final for a memorable trophy double. 23 23 5. Eric Cantona lifted the Premiership trophy for United in 1997 – In less than six full seasons in English football, Cantona won the title five times – four with Man United and once with Leeds (in the final season of the old Division One). He was captain of the 1997 champions in his final season before retiring. 8. United cantered to the title in 2000 – Fresh from their treble glory, Man United were unstoppable as they won the Premiership by a margin of 18 points in 2000. 23 23 21. City were crowned champions in 2014 – Liverpool seemed set to be crowned surprise champions as they led the league with just three games to go, but they stumbled and City kept their nerve to win the trophy again. 23 23 4. Manchester United grabbed the trophy back in 1996 – Newcastle United were 12 points clear in January, but United reeled them in to win the league again, adding the FA Cup in May. 9. The Red Devils claimed the first Premier League hat-trick in 2001 – United won the league with ease again. Who could stop them making it an unprecedented four in a row? 23 23 7. Manchester United ruled in 1999 – Not only did United pip Arsenal to the Premiership in 1999, they also won the FA Cup and Champions League. 13. The Blues successfully defended the trophy in 2006 – Another dominant season for Chelsea, easing to the title ahead of Manchester United, it seemed like they would go on to dominate in the years to come. This was also the last season in which the division was known as the Premiership, reverting to the Premier League. 23 2. United retained the trophy in 1994 – Now sponsored by Carling and rebranded the FA Carling Premiership, United won the title with ease, en route to claiming their first ever league and FA Cup double. 23 11. Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ lifted the trophy in 2004 – The only unbeaten season in the Premier League era, the Gunners went 38 games without loss to memorably win the title. 23 23 14. Arsenal were champions in 1998 – The Gunners claimed their first Premiership title, under the management of Arsene Wenger, going on to claim the league and FA Cup double. 19. Manchester City lifted the trophy in dramatic style in 2012 – The most dramatic climax to a Premier League season, as big spending City needed to score twice in added time on the final day of the season to be crowned champions at local rivals United’s expense. Goals from Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero sealed a never-to-be-forgotten success. 12. Chelsea made their mark in 2005 – Jose Mourinho was in charge as Russian owner Roman Abramovich’s big spending helped bring the trophy to Stamford Bridge, ending a 50-year wait for Chelsea’s second top flight title. The champions finished the campaign with a record 95 points, suffering just one defeat and conceding a measly 15 goals. 20. Sir Alex Ferguson bowed out as United won the trophy yet again in 2013 – Title number 20 for United, and the last of Sir Alex Ferguson’s 13 Premier League trophies before he retired. The great Scot went out in a blaze of glory, thanks largely to the goals of big money signing Robin van Persie. 16. United achieved another hat-trick of titles in 2009 – Ronaldo’s final season in red, as Man United drew level with Liverpool’s all-time record of 18 top flight titles. 9. Arsenal interrupted United’s run of success in 2002 – Including a run of 13 successive wins, Arsenal wrapped up the title with victory at Old Trafford, to make it a league and FA Cup double. 23 10. United won it again in 2003 – After another titanic tussle with Arsenal, Man United claimed the trophy again. 23 23 23 17. Chelsea topped the pile in 2010 – The Blues thwarted United’s hopes of winning four in a row, as Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti led them to the club’s first league and FA Cup double. They also became the first club to score over 100 goals in the Premier League era. It looks very much like Leicester City will be crowned Premier League champions thanks to a remarkable campaign which sees them needing just one victory to guarantee top spot. The Foxes have three games remaining and lead second-place Tottenham Hotspur by seven points, as they bid to win the league for the first time in their history.Leicester first played in the top flight in 1908/09, when English football’s top division was governed by the Football League. In 1929 they finished runners up in Division One, just a point behind champions The Wednesday, but have mostly yo-yoed between the top two divisions since. Before this season, Leicester’s best top flight finish since 1929 had been seventh place in 1976, under the management of Jimmy Bloomfield. Now Italian manager Claudio Ranieri is carving his name into Foxes folklore, as Leicester aim to become the 24th different club to be crowned English champions. They will also become just the sixth club to claim the Premier League trophy, since the top flight was reorganised in 1992.Take a look at every Premier League trophy presentation, through the years, in our slideshow above. 23 23 18. Man United were back on top in 2011 – United’s record 19th top flight title, taking them clear of Liverpool. 1. Manchester United claimed the first Premier League crown in 1993 – to see fantastic photos of Premier League trophy presentations from down the years, click the arrow above, right – After 104 years of the Football League governing English football’s top division, the 1992/93 season marked the first staging of the FA Premier League, replacing the First Division as the – pun intended – premier competition. With it came a new trophy for the champions of England, lifted first by Manchester United, as the Red Devils ended a wait of 26 years since their last top flight success. 22. Chelsea were celebrating again in 2015 – Jose Mourinho was back at the Bridge to guide Chelsea to another title. 23 23 23 23 23 3. Blackburn Rovers were 1995 Premiership champions – When United won the first Premier League crown in 1993, Rovers were in their first season back among the elite, having claimed promotion to the top flight via the play-offs. Two years later, under the management of Kenny Dalglish, bankrolled by wealthy supporter-chairman Jack Walker, and boasting the firepower of Alan Shearer and British record signing Chris Sutton, Blackburn became champions for the first time in 81 years. last_img read more

5 Key Ways to Maximize Email Marketing Effectiveness [Data]

first_img Don’t forget to share this post! AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to TwitterTwitterShare to FacebookFacebookShare to Email AppEmail AppShare to LinkedInLinkedInShare to MessengerMessengerShare to SlackSlack This is a guest blog post written by Hunter Boyle. He is the senior business development manager for AWeber and a seasoned optimization and content marketing strategist. Hunter also speaks and blogs about multichannel marketing with an emphasis on SMBs and nonprofits. We all know that today, high quality content that helps prospects and customers solve business problems is the most effective type of marketing. And no matter which channels deliver that help, from blogs and social sites to webinars and whitepapers, email is still playing an integral role in cultivating those business relationships. When asked about their top email marketing priorities for 2012 in a recent MarketingSherpa survey of more than 2,700 email marketers, “delivering highly relevant content” ranked first among large and mid-sized companies (70% and 62% respectively), and second among small businesses (71%), surpassed only by “growing and retaining subscribers” — which, of course, largely depends on content also. This is great news, because it suggests that email will continue to improve in 2012.The trick is, how do we keep making those content-driven email relationships better and more profitable for all involved, marketers and customers alike? We set out to answer that question, and the result was a new special report ebook and email series that explores five key ways to maximize your email marketing:1. Approach List Building StrategicallyThere’s no shortage of tactics for growing email lists, but it’s all too easy to get caught up in them at the expense of a fully developed plan. Does your email strategy account for how and when to apply various tactics, when to test others, and a consistent process for analysis and adjustments? With less than a third of email marketers saying they send relevant emails to segmented audiences with a clear conversion goal, this is an area ripe for improvement.2. Set Clear Expectations for SubscribersAs marketers, we often don’t see the disconnect between our perception of how our offers are presented and how prospects see and understand them. In particular, short email forms that simply ask for name and email and offer little context or information about send frequency, specific content options, or address validation, tend to generate larger lists but include lower quality contacts. We may know what’s behind our opt-in form, but how clear is it really to a first-time site visitor who got served a pop-up window before even reading the page? That’s why it’s critical to set expectations with your potential subscribers so they know exactly what they’re signing up for and exactly what the value is.3. Segment Lists to Match Your PrioritiesWhether you’re segmenting lists based on behaviors such as opens, clicks, and downloads (or lack thereof); on stage in the sales cycle; or on more specific demographic data, the bottom line is that segmentation is a huge factor in establishing relevance. Matching segments to your organization’s ideal customer personas makes your content more engaging and your offers and campaigns more likely to succeed. So why are only about half of email marketers using these techniques regularly?4. Automate Your CampaignsThank you, welcome, and transactional emails are widely used by organizations of all sizes, but research shows a significant drop-off in other types of automated messages. Lead nurturing, drip campaigns, re-engagement campaigns, and auto-responders make it easier for marketers to create email series with the intent of building relationships; however, these types account for roughly one-third or fewer of the emails sent by survey respondents. If your content mix includes “evergreen” information such as how-to articles or training videos that won’t lose their news value, marketing automation is definitely an option worth exploring.5. Optimize and Test RegularlyTo quote the MarketingSherpa report, “Continuous experimentation is the quickest path to peak performance.” Yet only 28% of small businesses regularly test and optimize email messages. Mid-sized and larger organizations fared better, but still only around half test regularly. Deadlines and full workloads are a common culprit, but let’s say you run a test that yields an 18% lift in response — you’d probably find time to test more consistently next time, right? Interestingly, subject lines are among the most popular tests, yet they often produce the smallest gains compared to other areas such as landing pages and target audiences. Don’t be afraid to test various elements of your email marketing efforts to optimize email performance. The tips above are a starting point, but for more detailed charts from the survey plus recommendations and links to case studies, how-to articles, and online tools related to these five steps, you’ll want to get the complete special report ebook and email series. MarketingSherpa and AWeber are providing the series for free through December 31. Originally published Dec 14, 2011 8:00:00 PM, updated October 20 2016 Email Marketing Topics:last_img read more

How to Improve Your Email Marketing With an Integrated Approach

first_img Don’t forget to share this post! AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to TwitterTwitterShare to FacebookFacebookShare to Email AppEmail AppShare to LinkedInLinkedInShare to MessengerMessengerShare to SlackSlack Email Marketing Topics: As we’ve said before on this blog, the various channels you leverage in your overall marketing strategy should work in tandem, not in silos. When individual marketing channels — social media, blogging, email, search, etc. — work together to promote an offer, promotion, or even a full-blown campaign, they can generate even better results than they would have on an individual level.Email, for example, is one of those channels that is most powerful when it’s integrated with the rest of your marketing efforts. So let’s review some of the different ways you can achieve integration between email and other marketing assets , such as search, social media, mobile, and analytics. Email & Social Media Integration Study after study shows that email strategies that integrate social media lead to better results. According to Aberdeen Research, 65% of the top 20% of B2B marketers in social media lead generation integrate email with social media, compared to the industry average of 51% .Integrating social media into your email strategy is easier than you might think. Here are some tactics to help you get started: Add Social Media Sharing Buttons to Your Emails Adding social media sharing and follow buttons to your emails will extend the reach of your email sends beyond the recipients in your database, expanding the visibility of your content and brand. Make social media buttons a part of your email templates so recipients can easily share your email content with their individual networks. Leverage Social Media Insights for Email Sends Send targeted emails to subscribers who have mentioned you in social media. Using integrated marketing analytics ( like HubSpot’s ), you should be able to see a list of email subscribers and leads who have mentioned your company on Twitter. In addition to responding to those highly engaged leads via social media, you could also send them a follow-up email with targeted information and content. Grow Your Email List Through Social Media Leverage your social media presence to give followers a reason to subscribe to your email list. For example, consider placing a call-to-action on your Facebook page or in a dedicated Facebook page tab . Make sure you demonstrate the clear benefits of your email subscription so you can convert your social media followers into subscribers. Email & Search Integration It’s true: Optimized emails can help you get found in search. Many email tools, like HubSpot , enable you to create and host HTML versions of your emails on the web for people who are having trouble viewing email in their inbox. Not only is this web-based version beneficial for usability, but it also helps you boost your SEO. Knowing that an online archive of your email will exist, make sure your email content follows the same SEO best practices as your website and other content does. Use your best keywords and anchor text when constructing the body of the message. Ensure all images have alt tags and include social media sharing buttons to stretch the content further. Originally published May 9, 2012 12:30:00 PM, updated July 28 2017 Email & Mobile Integration According to Return Path, 16% of all emails are opened on mobile devices , and this number can rise to 50% for some companies and industries . Creating a strategy that reflects the changing way recipients open and read emails is only going to increase in importance in the coming years. So what does it take to make your email strategy mobile?Test your email templates to see how they comes across on different mobile devices.Give your calls-to-action (CTAs) wiggle room – make sure buttons and links are easy to click for readers using touch screens.Offer both plain text and HTML versions of your email .Use descriptive alt text with all your images in case they don’t display. Optimize for mobile on the landing pages and forms your email links to.HubSpot’s marketing software automatically optimizes your emails and landing pages for mobile viewing, so if you are a customer, you’re all set! This article is an excerpt from our free ebook, The Complete Guide to Optimizing Email Marketing for Conversions . Learn more about how to increase the ROI of your email marketing by downloading the ebook here . Email & Analytics Integration Today’s marketing should extend well beyond the boundaries of your website. As a result, individual analytics for your website, social media, email, and other channels just aren’t enough anymore. A multichannel view enables you to see how prospects are navigating their experience with you across various marketing properties. Marketing analytics data can answer cross-channel questions, such as: How many people clicked through on your email but didn’t convert?Of the people who converted on your website, how many of them came from social media? How many opened your last email message?Which results in more leads: PPC or organic search, email or social? Not only do integrated analytics reports show you the effectiveness of your marketing strategy, but they also help you get more targeted in your email sends. According to B2B Magazine, 37% of B2B marketers say lack of user data is the major obstacle to effective segment targeting . By exchanging single channel analytics for integrated marketing analytics, you can begin to segment your mailing list and send communications based on the lead’s history of downloads and pages viewed. In the screenshot below (of HubSpot’s Sources tool ), you will see that email and its analytics are only one piece of the inbound marketing puzzle. You need to look at the entire context in order to make smart decisions on segmentation and nurturing.last_img read more

WTF Is the Future of Business? Brian Solis Has an Answer

first_img Originally published Aug 3, 2013 9:00:00 AM, updated February 01 2017 Have you ever wondered what the future of business will look like? Maybe you figured it’s going to be something like business in the past: buy stuff, sell stuff, try to make a profit by selling stuff for more than it cost you to make it, building a better mousetrap, winning friends and influencing people, crossing the chasm, riding the long tail to the tipping point with the other outliers, going from good to great, and dealing with cheese that keeps moving around. The future of business won’t be like that. The future of business is all about dazzling people with amazing customer experiences, says Brian Solis, whose new book, What’s the Future of Business? Changing the Way Businesses Create Experiences, has a cover with the letters “WTF” in huge block letters — a hint, perhaps, that this is not going to be some ordinary business book, but rather a radical manifesto about change, innovation, and disruption. It’s business with a dash of irreverence and punk rock thrown in, a little sneer that says, Look, people, the world has changed, there’s this thing called social media, have you heard of it? In this new world, the marketing of products becomes as important as the products themselves. Marketers are the ones who create experiences. Which means suddenly marketers stand at center stage, instead of off in the wings. Suddenly all eyes are on you. Are you ready for your close-up? Read this book and you will be.The Influencers’ InfluencerWho is this Brian Solis? Folks at HubSpot know him as a pal who will be speaking at our INBOUND conference this August alongside Arianna Huffington, Seth Godin, and Nate Silver. But according to the book jacket, Solis is “globally recognized as one of the most prominent thought leaders in new media,” as well as a “digital analyst, sociologist, and futurist.” He’s an influencer’s influencer, whose blog,, is considered a must-read for marketers. Solis is a rare web intellectual, a guy who can melt your brain on Twitter but can also think and write convincingly in chunks of more than 140 characters. At INBOUND, Brian will talk about how the pace of innovation has sped up and impacted the pace of change within business overall, and probably expand upon the ideas presented in his book. His Bold IdeasBut what is the book about? It has one big takeaway. Companies are on a journey of transformation. We’re living in an age of digital Darwinism where you must innovate or die, all because consumers are more empowered than ever with the internet at their disposal. And in this new age, Solis argues that we shouldn’t segment these consumers by age — Generation X, Generation Y, Generation Z, Boomers, and Matures. Instead, we should use “Generation C,” in which the C stands for Connected. Generation C serves as umbrella to describe consumers who are active on the internet and social media, regardless of age. “Gen C is not an age group — it is a way of life,” he proclaims. In this worldview, the binary is between those who are Connected and those who are Not Connected. The chief distinction is that, “To Gen C, experience is everything. What they feel about your products and services now and over time is shared through these connected networks.” The challenge for brands is to design the experience that those people will have, and “design the journey that they will embark on.”Too many companies are using social media but still not really talking to customers — and that’s partly why they fail to deliver a complete experience, Solis asserts. Presumably these companies deserve points for trying, and it’s nice that they’ve hired someone to run their Twitter feed, but they’re not making the most of the medium. To paraphrase the late great Steve Jobs: You’re doing it wrong. Solis shows you how to do it right. What’s the Future of Business: Changing the Way Businesses Create Experiences is an ambitious and ultimately optimistic look at the challenges companies face as they adapt to a digital world, a world where empowered and ever more demanding consumers bring to each transaction a new set of expectations.
